I enable global players to scale through people first framework because I'm passionate about the voice of customer when it comes to digital transformation.
Growth does not happen by accident, and is not sustainable in any organizations where the culture is not a people culture.
I was a financial analyst at a manufacturing company, but later got into tech and learnt how to code and design applications for the largest financial banks and insurance companies across the globe.
The risk I took to get into tech was worth it because that was what got me to where I'm at today.
I came to the US in 1991 to pursue education, and got my first job in the mailroom at a corporation.
I got an opportunity and ended up going working for the same company as a Treasury Department.
There are random opportunities that you have to seize and be bold enough to talk to people when they walk in.
I always say network with people, when you are not in need of anything.
Commercial break.
My purpose in life is to tenfold other people's success, and my book is about thinking about the framework for tech startups.
It talks about the five functional fundamental growth disconnects that trap startups and keeps them from reaching the summit, and from touching the sky.
I intended to empower founders and CEOs to self-reflect and grow as they progress and scale their business.
I challenge clients and co-workers to be curious seeker, and this book helps people understand the questions to identify blind spots as they scale their business.
The book is not just about business, but also about my experience climbing Mount Everest base camp to keep a secret that I promised my grandma to spread her ash there.
When you're a founder, you need to know why you start a business, and when you stick to that mission, your success rate is much bigger.
Curiosity is a prerequisite for dreaming and is the rock of innovative thinking, and I inspire curiosity when I work with my customers.
We as leaders, we can always help people to tap into their potential by encouraging and inspiring their curiosity.
Explore life in whatever form it takes, be curious, leave your comfort zone, embrace courage in small and big ways, because you have amazing answers just waiting inside you.

The Power of Process - Slater Victoroff
Friday Jun 03, 2022
Friday Jun 03, 2022
“You have to get the process in place before you think about automating it, and also give people a non- judgmental and collaborative space to see the truth for themselves.” Slater Victoroff
Unstructured data accounts for the largest part of the total data that businesses see and deal with on a daily basis. This therefore means that businesses must find ways and tools to process this data efficiently and with the least cost, and also reap some business advantages. This is according to Slater Victoroff, who also insists on the importance of having working processes in the organization.
Slater Victoroff is the Founder and CTO of Indico, an enterprise AI solution for unstructured content that emphasizes document understanding.
Slater has been building machine learning solutions for startups, governments, and Fortune 100 companies for the past seven years and is a frequent speaker at AI conferences. Indico’s framework requires 1000x less data than traditional machine learning techniques, and they regularly beat the likes of AWS, Google, Microsoft, and IBM in head-to-head bake-offs. Indico recently announced a $22 million Series B raise.
Slater has educated hundreds of business users on successfully implementing deep learning through a simple framework that helps executives rapidly accelerate the adoption of technology in their businesses. Slater attended Olin College of Engineering before pursuing Indico full-time after its acceptance into the Techstars Boston Program.
In today’s episode, Slater talks about the importance of simplifying processes and how his company is helping businesses do that, specifically with regards to processing unstructured data.

I describe Indico today as the bionic arm for the modern knowledge worker, and we focus on unstructured content.
Bionic arms are not cyborgs, and at Indico, we champion this idea of the bionic arm because every action is in the person's control.
From a business perspective, you get to have one consistent way of performing processes that is represented in code.
Commercial break
A huge part of our philosophy is having to meet people where they're at and at least helping then work in that world.
Making enterprise technology usable, and understanding how it actually plugs into the broader ecosystem can be really challenging, yet often that is where the value is.
One of the core reasons as to why it's got to be a bionic arm, is because we have to position the technology in a way that it empowers the subject matter expert.
You have to get the process in place before you think about automating it, and also give people a non- judgmental and collaborative space to see the truth for themselves.
The biggest thing that I have learned leading Indico over the years, and even more specifically with the kind of work that we do, is the power of process.
The process is so often the key to taking things up to the next level, so walk into it with open eyes and recognize that it is a real challenge in its own right and not one to be taken lightly.

“Success and especially significance, follows the path of the depth and the breadth of relationships.” Rick West

What I realized early on in my career is that solving problems was a really good thing.
In April 2010, we launched the first app in iTunes that paid cash, that used geolocation and metadata to provide real time data to masses.
In an effort to solve a problem for me, I realized that everyone had the same problem and therefore saw an opportunity to scale it.
Part of what we started to learn on the user side, is that we were helping people that were down on their luck, which felt good.
For entrepreneurs, they were able to know within a short time and minimum cost, whether customers liked their products or not.
The best advice I was ever given to me as an entrepreneur was that you are only as good as you invoice and collect, and that the Holy Grail is if the customer buys it again.
If strangers are willing to pay you for your product, and they renew, go drive it by all means because it means that the market has spoken positively.
Commercial Break
We realized early on from a user base standpoint that we needed to have advocates that were not being paid by field agent, but were just passionate about the product.
The second thing was understanding the power of the voice of our crowd and knowing how to leverage on it to solve the problem.
If you've got a great product, word of mouth really is a thing and that goes back to the advocacy.
You cannot keep asking friends and family if your baby is cute, you've got to go find strangers because they will tell you the truth.
Even if you're not a technology person, our app is not that intimidating and is pretty basic.
Relationships matter, and success and especially significance really follows the path of the depth and the breadth of relationships.

“So much is learned at the feet of more experienced people and it is so important that no matter what career or job or opportunity you pursue; you seek out people who've done it already.” Francisco Ramos Jr.

I've been practicing for about a quarter of a century in Miami and also do a lot of writing and speaking in the areas leadership management, and mentoring.
I think the biggest takeaway from what I've been doing, is that it's very fulfilling, but it also has certain opportunities that allow for growth.
Each of us has something to offer that we can all learn from.
Most of my books or writings, and the website is directed toward younger professionals as a whole.
When I want to learn more about something I sit down and write a book about it.
The way we conduct business has changed fundamentally, because traditionally, there was always an apprenticeship model.
So much is learned at the feet of more experienced people and it is so important that no matter what career or job or opportunity you pursue, you seek out people who've done it already.
Most teams these days are multi-generational and understanding what the needs of each generation is important.
Commercial break
We overlook how important personal relationships are, because we're so stuck on doing work and meeting certain deadlines.
You can find a way to look outward and focus on other people’s needs, which can draw you away from sadness and despair that sometimes follows us.
I recommend people to sit down with their contact lists that they have and reach out to people often.
If you're just sitting at your desk and not doing much else, it's hard to develop relationships that can grow your business.
Keep in mind that we are now in sort of a new paradigm, and we have to be very cognizant of the habits we created both good and bad keep the good ones and try to change the not so good ones.

Minimizing Risk in Business - Van Carlson
Friday Apr 29, 2022
Friday Apr 29, 2022
“831B is just a toolbox for business owners and for the right business owner, it's potentially a game changer.” Van Carlson
Risk management has always been an important tool in running any business, particularly when a market experiences turbulent times. Understanding the types of risks that face your business and the mitigation tools available will help you be more strategic with how you cushion yourself and your business against adversity. This is according to Van Carlson, who has been helping business owners to manage risks by simplifying the 831b program.
As Founder & CEO of SRA 831(b), Van is an innovator, developing products for a variety of industries that can take advantage of adding additional revenues while mitigating risk at the same time. By delivering institutional-type ideas to small-and-mid-sized business owners, SRA positions its clients at the forefront of their industry, allowing them to weather any storm.
Van Carlson has an extensive background in Risk Management with more than 24 years in the industry. Prior to founding SRA, Van ran his own property and casualty firm for 15 years. With many commercial business owners as his clients, he saw the Great Recession of 2008 hit hard, and just like them, he was also affected by the sharp downturn in our economy. During this time, he realized there must be a better way to manage risk overall. From that desire to improve business operations for both himself and his clients, along with his extensive background in insurance, risk management, and finance, SRA was formed.
Since its start in 2008, several changes in US Government regulations have allowed the business to thrive – substantiating what Van already believed in: businesses needed a better solution to mitigate risk and create a war chest for the future. In 2013, increases in domiciles allowed the company’s success to skyrocket – with double-digit growth year over year
In today’s episode, Van provides insights on what code 831b is all about, and how businesses can benefit from the program.

I'm born to be an entrepreneur, and I love interacting with people.
It took effort to get to where our company was able to be successful, and we're blessed in a lot of different ways from that standpoint.
Mitigating risk is an important aspect of the business, because when running your own business, there are many unforeseen events that come your way.
The 831B tax code, is the one we utilize for our clients, and it provides an incentive for you to manage risk that you either can't transfer to traditional carriers, or it's limited in scope.
In instances where there is risk that you can’t insure against, the 831B comes in to help mitigate the risk more effectively.
The biggest worry for businesses is whether or not they can keep the cash flow they have, and keep it rolling forward to grow their business, and that is where the code comes in.
We are an 831 B administrator, where we admin or clients’ plans, make sure they stay compliant and that they're doing things they're supposed to be doing and enjoying the benefits.
The greatest compliment we get from all of our clients is that they are more at peace knowing that they have signed into the program.
We now have about 180 advisors around the country representing our product and present in all 50 states.
Commercial break
When I sit down with business owners today, they all know that they got to change and stop doing the same thing over and over again.
There's a ton of unfunded risks that you can't transfer to traditional insurance companies and we bring a simple turnkey approach to it, and make sure that we're not complicating our business owners lives.
831B is just a toolbox for business owners and for the right business owner, it's potentially a game changer.
Making profit is not easy in business, and when you do, you've got to recognize the risks you took to get there and know to mitigate that risk going forward.

Thursday Apr 21, 2022
“If you want to sell your business in future, focus on getting the business to have consistent cash flow, and having it to operate on autopilot.” Bharat Kanodia.
Understanding the business, and having an accurate valuation is essential for every business owner. This is especially true when they are assessing business opportunities and costs. In order to effectively plan for the growth and eventual transition of your businesses, you need to focus on the important factors, and valuation is at the heart of it all. This is according to Bharat Kanodia, who also notes that when it comes to valuation, getting accurate information is important for effective decision making.
Bharat Kanodia has valued over 4000 companies and assets worth $2.6 trillion. He has appraised unique assets including the Golden Gate Bridge, Atlanta Airport, Uber, Airbnb, Yahoo!, the Brooklyn Bridge, and the Mirage Casino Las Vegas, among many others. Bharat is the Founder of Veristrat, a company that advises startup founders and venture capitalists on valuations.

All large assets like the Golden Gate Bridge or Atlanta airport or Empire State Building are insured by somebody.
After 9/11 happened, my company at that time, American appraisal, got a contract from Lloyds of London and their brokers to appraise a list of 200 assets around the world
I got some assets to appraise and it was a learning experience for me and my colleagues and my company also gained a lot of money.
I've since done many interesting projects and been privy to some very unique assets, and when other appraisers don't know how to do it, I get called to step in.
If you want to sell your business in future, you got to focus on two things which are first, that buyers of businesses are looking to buy businesses with consistent cash flow.
Second thing is that buyers or businesses don't want to do anything to enjoy that cash flow and therefore want a business that perform on autopilot to a great extent.

Strategy session is really where you're mixing practicality of what's happening on the ground with your higher level of thinking
At this point I get to pick the clients that I want to work with, and for me good clients are people who are open to listening.
Believe in the power of affirmation and meditations.

Project Management For Your Money - Simon Brady
Friday Apr 08, 2022
Friday Apr 08, 2022
“Start to take saving and investing particularly seriously, and as early as possible.” Simon Brady
We know that we need to invest in our financial future, but tackling it can be so daunting and downright overwhelming. It however doesn’t have to be that hard, especially for young people who still have the time and potential to accomplish their financial goals. Simon Brady helps people to plan their personal finances, and insists that the only person in charge of taking care of your financial future is yourself.
Simon Brady grew up in London but came to Wall Street in the late 1980s as a trader. He worked there for over 20 years in both currencies and equities before turning to personal financial planning and setting up his own fee-only firm, Anglia Advisors, which is a personal finance and investment consultant that specializes in working with younger individuals, couples and families looking to secure their financial futures.
In today’s episode, Simon talks about his practice and why it is important that people start to take investment matters seriously.

I originally grew up in London and came over here in a trading capacity in the late 1980s.
I got qualified as a certified financial planner and set up my own firm, Anglia advisors.
My compensation method is completely different where I work per hour basis and with that model, I was able to work with younger people who have a lot going on and need a lot of hand-holding.
I love it when people come to me at an early stage because there's so much we can do if you give me 40 years of time horizon.
The transactional commission based financial advisors are not really incentivized to talk to you about that they can't monetize.
I get paid the same regardless of what we are talking about, so I can have a very wide range of conversation topics with people.
Commercial break
When someone reaches out to me, I always want to try and establish in that first discussion why they are reaching out.
I establish what kind of agenda we're going to put together, and it really is up to the client to put the agenda together.
The pandemic reminded quite a few people about their mortality which sort of reinforced that very unexpected things can happen.
There has been an increase in the general awareness that you can plan your life out in the way that you want to.
Some people that come to me do so because they've got a plan and they want me to come back and endorse what they're doing.
The delegators outsource everything about their finances to me, and my model permits me to work with all these people.
The best time to start saving and investing is during your first week at your first job, the second best time is now.
Start to take saving and investing particularly seriously, as early as possible.

That passion served him well in operating and managing a wholesale distribution company he co-owned for nine years. The company grew an average of 60% a year before being acquired in 2005.
Since then, he’s had failures and successes that have been valuable learning experiences. He started Rialto Marketing in 2013 and has been helping service businesses simplify marketing so they can grow with less stress. Tim believes that most people overcomplicate marketing yet doesn't have to be that way.
In today’s episode, Tim talks about how he got into entrepreneurship, relationships in business and why facing the uncomfortable challenges fearlessly is the key to growth in business.

I grew up in Northern California in the Bay Area and my wife and I moved to the Denver area in 2008. [2:34]
From a business standpoint, realtor marketing is my current business. [2:51]
When I initially started that business, we were actually focused specifically on selling mobile applications into the K12 education space. [2:57]
My entrepreneurial journey has not been a straight path where I have had multiple shifts due to changes in the app market. [3:07]
What we're doing today is working primarily with service based businesses so they can grow with less stress. [3:28]
We help them create an implemented plan to communicate the right message to the right people. [3:39]
Many people are just battling information overload when it comes to marketing due to the many different channels, and tactics within those channels. [3:51]
I think the reason we overcomplicate marketing is because we skip the fundamentals and that's what we help people really get in place. [6:38]
When I communicate what the fundamentals are and why they're so important, most people understand it. [7:04]
I fell into entrepreneurship after I graduated from college and went to help my father manage his distribution company on a day to day basis. [7:40]
The biggest driver in our success in that business was the quality of the relationships that we had which a lot of those relationships my dad had been building for years. [9:11]
The quality of your relationships has a direct correlation to the results that you end up seeing. [9:42]
With long term thinking, you don't build relationships overnight but have to have that patience, and discipline to what you need to do to build those relationships. [10:36]
I've gotten to a place from a sales standpoint where I look to understand the problem you have first before taking that next step. [12:31]
Commercial break [13:20]
I transitioned into residential real estate for about three years ago and one of the things that real estate really pushed me to do was get outside of my comfort zone on a daily basis. [14:39]
If you are going to be successful long term, you have to be comfortable getting outside your comfort zone because it helps you to continue to grow and embrace change. [15:31]
I feel fortunate that I've never really shied away from change all that much but rather I tend to embrace it. [17:05]
The information you need to be successful is already there and you do not need to start from ground zero, you just need to know where to go to get that information. [19:06]
Entrepreneurs need to focus on the next measurable step and break the larger things down into the small steps that they can really focus on. [22:52]

"If we don't have the competency to actually be able to serve folks with different experiences, then it can actually be more harmful than closing the door to somebody.” Alison Tedford

I started my career working for the Canadian federal government where I worked on indigenous issues within residential school claims, and then moving into the prison system. [2:20]
I moved into the private sector and moved that big government experience into the private sector to help small businesses. [3:08]
Diversity is about cultivating empathy and creating experiences where people feel welcome and valued. [4:38]
A lot of people tend to shy away from having those conversations because they feel they don’t want to get political. [5:22]
The ultimate message is about letting people know that I care about what they're going through and what happens to them. [5:35]
Politics will influence things and the decisions that are made impact different people in different ways. [6:25]
It is just understanding that people are all having different experiences, and things are impacting them on different levels. [6:40]
Often people come to me because they want to make a statement about something that's happened. [7:25]
We always want to make it clear that we care about what's happening and that we're an inclusive business welcoming all sorts of people. [7:35]
We have to look at how we make the experience match with what's in our hearts and what we want to say. [8:04]
It's really about creating checks and balances so that your message is cohesive. [8:26]
I don't have the same budget like Amazon or Google to implement some big initiative, but we can start from where we are instead and look at what we can do with the budget we have. [9:52]
I try to encourage folks that it's okay to focus on an area that you're passionate about. [10:49]
Just because you care about things doesn't mean you have to care about all the things all the time, you still have to leave room for yourself and to serve your clients. [11:15]
The reality is that we need to welcome people that we're ready to serve. [11:35]
If we don't have the competency to actually be able to serve folks with different experiences, then it can actually be more harmful than closing the door to somebody. [11:42]
We don't have to be everything for everybody but we want to be intentional about having respect, care and concern for all people. [12:28]
Commercial break [14:10]
I try to keep things as simple as possible where I create systems that enable me do things consistently. [14:42
I try to make sure that I'm taking time to take care of myself as much as possible. [17:52]
If you're going to spend the time and the energy and take the risks, it should be for something that means something to you. [18:14]
I really make sure that what I do matters to me, and it's something that I feel like is consistent with what I want to see in the world. [18:50]
I took a lot of time to experiment and find what I liked and finding the best environments. [20:39]
There's so much abundance of opportunity and we really have to be judicious about what we decide to invest in. [21:02]
If you're looking to make your business more inclusive, but you're feeling inadequate, remember Brene Brown’s quote that say ‘Daring leaders are never silent about hard things. [21:52]
If you're a business owner, you're daring leader meaning you're already qualified to speak on hard things. [22:09]
You innovate every single day, and so you can innovate the way you work with people too. [22:18]
